Great anti-prejudice jam from the supergroup before they were a supergroup, The Yardbirds. The song is called "You're a Better Man Than I" and I believe it was just a b-side. It was on a 'deluxe edition' of "For Your Love" and some greatest hits compilations too though. I couldn't find solid information on it, but I do know it's an awesome song...

This dude was a merch guy for Archers of Loaf. He kept in touch with Eric Bachmann, and later joined his new band, Crooked Fingers. This is from his second solo album, "The Lost One". The song is called "Pretty Girl's Going to Ruin My Life (Again)"...and it's by Barton Carroll!

I don't like much early Beatles stuff, but this song is a gem. It's called "Devil in Her Heart" and is on their second LP, With the Beatles (released in 1963). I believe all of their early stuff is mostly covers, including this one. Anyway...check it!

This dude kind of reminds me of a more-rockin' Bowie. I discovered him on the Left of Center (Sirius channel 26) blog show as well. Sorry...I had a somewhat busy weekend, and I slept in both days. I didn't feel like doing anything! Here's a song I played for my friends Brian & Shane on the way down to the Built to Spill show. It's called "Pistol Packin' Papa" by Jimmie Rodgers. It's a country song from 1930. It's wonderful.

I discovered this band on Left of Center (Sirius channel 26) as well. This song randomly came on my iPod today at work, and I thought it was a perfect song to post. "Broken Bones" by Howling Bells:

I actually don't even like this band...except this song, obviously. It features guest vocals by Tegan Quin (of Tegan & Sara)...whom I also don't like! Anyway...it's called "Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart" by Against Me! The truth is, if you don't at least like the chorus of this song, you're probably weird.

I just realized I missed yesterday too. Here's some more country-rock. Even better country-rock. LEGENDARY country-rock! "You're Still On My Mind" by The Byrds. This is after David Crosby was booted from the band and Gram Parsons replaced him. This entire album ("Sweetheart of the Rodeo") is fucking flawless. I hope you like it:

It's kind of silly for me to post this song, considering I don't smoke weed...but oh well. This is "(Down to) Seeds & Stems (Again)" by Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen. They were often called one of the first "country-rock" bands to ever exist. This song is funny, but somewhat sad...at the same time. Weird!

Since I missed yesterday, I'll post an extra song. This is a band I discovered on the "Blog Radio" show on Left of Center (Sirius channel 26). I don't know much about them other than they are Canadian. The vocalist reminds me of Nick Cave a little bit. Maybe even a little Jim Morrison-ish? Anyway...here it is. The best song the Butthole Surfers ever recorded. Here it is..."Suicide". Everybody remembers "Pepper", but this band was awesome in the early to mid-eighties. Craziest dudes...weirdest music. This one is kind of straight-up. The guitar tone rules so much. Love it!

Unfortunately, Townes Van Zandt never got the recognition he deserved. So, to help spread the word, I'm posting my favorite song of his titled "Waiting Around to Die". My fifth entry is "Fixin' to Die" by Spacemen 3. Droney, psychedelic blues-rock that's perfect to kill yourself to. Ya know...if you're into that sort of thing. But seriously...this is a cover (originally by bluesman Bukka White) by Jason Pierce's (Spiritualized) first band. Get into it!

This entry will be a tribute to Pink Floyd's keyboardist Richard Wright, who passed away today after a short battle with cancer. First Barrett, now Wright. This bums me out big time. Anyway...I'll upload my favorite Pink Floyd song, "Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun" for your enjoyment:

I first discovered this track by seeing the video on YouTube. Released in 1980, this is "I Wanna Be Your Lover" by the Italian dance duo La Bionda. The one mustachioed guy in the group kind of reminds me of Italian Spiderman, which makes this even funnier. You really can't deny the catchiness of this song though!

Post number two. Paul McCartney & Elvis Costello - The Lovers That Never Were. This version was originally recorded in the summer of 1987, but then released on Paul's 1993 album "Off the Ground" without Elvis' vocals. Big mistake. This version destroys the newer version. One of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. You should love it:
